Therapy for Eating Disorders

An eating disorder is a mental health condition that affects the way you view your relationship with food and your body. However, people can experience unhealthy thought patterns about food and their body and/or eating patterns without having a full-scale disorder. You do not have to have a diagnosis to get help. These kinds of developing problems do get worse over time and getting help before they are at the level of diagnosis makes it easier to recover. 

 

There are many factors which contribute to and perpetuate disordered eating or an eating disorder. Eating disorders are serious and potentially life-threatening disorders that can be successfully treated. One part of the treatment involves psychotherapy. Eating disorders can develop during childhood, adolescence or young adulthood. Early intervention is best.

 

We have experienced therapists that can help you recover from an eating disorder. Colleen Wittig, RCC and Claudia Georgescu, RCC are trained in modalities which are evidence-based for treatment of disordered eating/eating disorders.

 

The most common types of eating disorders are:

  • Anorexia Nervosa

  • Bulimia Nervosa

  • Binge eating disorder

  • Orthorexia

  • ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Feeding and Intake Disorder)

  • OSFED (Otherwise Specified Feeding and Eating Disorder)

  • Learn how to manage intense urges

  • Explore thoughts, emotions and behaviors related to ED symptoms

  • Address underlying causes of your ED

  • Redefine your relationship with food and yourself

  • Make peace with your body which may translate to an enhanced sense of self

 

Please note, for clients who are at risk for severe medical complications associated with an eating disorder, communication with the treating medical doctor may be required to ensure the safety of the client.
