Our Services

Counselling

We offer counselling across the developmental span for children, adolescents, adults, and families. We utilize evidence-based approaches, such as CBT, narrative, & play, to support a wide range of challenges, including: parent consultation; divorce; behaviour challenges; anxiety; depression; trauma; eating disorders; and support for veterans.

Infant Mental Health

Infant Mental Health is a highly specialized area of therapy which provides support for parents for a variety of concerns that they may have for their infant ages 0-5 years. This unique, evidence-based intervention utilizes the parent as the key facilitator of change for their infant utilizing videos of parent-child interactions. It deepens parent-child relationships and strengthens confidence.

Play Therapy

Play therapy provides the opportunity for children to work through challenges and negative experiences utilizing their natural language of learning—play. This approach naturally follows the child’s developmental age and stage. The professionals at Sand Story are then able to harness the child’s natural developmental trajectory to tailor the therapy to each child’s needs.

Therapy for Eating Disorders

The Sand Story team has therapists with specialized training in disordered eating. Eating and/or body issues can develop during childhood, adolescence or young adulthood, and the research tells us that early intervention is best. Once an eating disorder occurs, it is serious, however, they can be successfully treated.

Workshops & Supervision

The Sand Story team are available for a wide range of trainings and workshops. Professional development training and parent workshops are tailored to the audience and topics are developed according to the needs of the host. These workshops have ranged from stand-alone one hour information sessions to multi-unit trainings offered internationally.

Psychoeducational Assessment

A Psychoeducational Assessment is a detailed assessment of a child/teen/adult's psychological and academic skills. These assessments are typically completed when students are feeling overly challenged in an academic area.

Adoption Assessment

In international adoptions, many countries require a psychological assessment as part of the process to ensure that children are going to healthy and well-adjusted homes.

Family Law Services

Sand Story Psychology Services specializes in offering a wide range of support for families going through separation and divorce. We offer services from initial support and talking to your children about separation and divorce, to full bi-lateral parental assessments in high conflict divorce. All our services are offered with a focus on parent-child attachment and healing for families.

Our Team

The Sand Story

Stories or narratives are the threads that weave our experiences, thoughts, and, dreams together. But most of all, stories are how we make sense of the relationships in our lives, both past and present. Stories become the fabric of how we see the world and how we experience it. Many of the children who come to counselling may tell their story in the sand tray, incorporating the symbols or figures that are meaningful to them. The child will tell their story this way many times, having control of how the story develops and how it ends, until they reach a place of growth, understanding, and/or acceptance. The beautiful thing about stories in the sand is, with a shake of the sand tray, the sand becomes smooth again to be built just the way the child needs it to be. For adults, the sand is metaphorical, whether they seek to improve the connections with their child or spouse, or need understanding or acceptance of the connections in their past, they can rework their story until they achieve the change they hoped for, or a sense of peace. My vision for Sand Story was to be a place that clients could come and feel connected and comfortable.  Each staff member has been chosen not just for their incredible talent, but also for their big hearts and their care for clients. I am so proud of this team who give their all working with a diverse range of clients. Whether it is a story of loss in counselling or a story of one’s abilities and struggles in an assessment, our clients’ bravery, heart, and tears continue to inspire us.

We look forward to connecting with you.
